3. How have the colonists been "misrepresented"?
Nonamiya [84]

Many colonists have been angry due to the fact they did now not have self-government. This supposed that they couldn't govern themselves and make their personal legal guidelines. They had to pay excessive taxes to the king. They felt that they have been paying taxes to a central authority where they had no representation.

In short, many colonists believed that as they have been not represented within the remote British parliament, any taxes it imposed on the colonists (such as the Stamp Act and the Townshend Acts) had been unconstitutional, and had been a denial of the colonists' rights as Englishmen.

Many colonists felt that they ought to no longer pay those taxes, because they have been surpassed in England with the aid of Parliament, now not through their own colonial governments. They protested, announcing that these taxes violated their rights as British residents. The colonists began to face up to boycotting, or no longer buying, British items.

What could be Johnson’s reasoning for not further punishing Confederate leaders?
Irina18 [472]

Johnson’s reasons for not punishing Confederate leaders was that he wanted to reunite the nation as soon as possible. At first, he followed a harsh system toward the frustrated Southerners. The southerners were denied political freedoms in the military or governmental role since they supported the Confederacy during the American rebellion.

On May 29 the year 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued his Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction, which laid out provisions for governing the restoration of citizenship and rights to former rebels. Johnson announced a pardon to all former Confederates only if they agreed to support the Union and obey laws against slavery. He also allowed former officials of the Confederacy to run for office in their states new elections.

Does diplomacy need to look different in the 21st century?
Tom [10]
Yes, I definitely think that diplomacy needs to look different in the 21st century. There needs to be a lot less confrontation and a lot more reconciliation between countries and genuine respect for the sovereignity and territorial integrity of each country. For example, it has become obvious that the aggressive stance of the US for Cuba did not work and Cuba isn't giving up its socialist system so this has helped to thaw relations between the two countries.
