Answer:

The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was introduced after the Civil War. The clause, which was officially approved on July 9, 1868, includes articles that guarantee legal certainty and equal treatment:  "No State will (...) deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

The amendment obliges all the states to treat every person within their territory as equals under the law. Also, every baby born on American territory was automatically granted American nationality.

When the amendment was adopted, these clauses were primarily intended to combat legalized racism, and to put an end to the issue of African American slavery and racial inequality in the United States.

The mid-nineteenth century was a tumultuous time in the United States. The contestation over slavery's expansion in the 1850s was characterized by the Compromise of 1850 , the Kansas Nebraska Act (1854), the Dred Scott Decision in 1857 and the formal secession of South Carolina from the union with the bombing of Fort Sumter in 1861. The Civil War (1861-1865) led to the defeat of the Confederacy and the emancipation of over four (4) million enslaved people. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the desire of Radical Republicans to incorporate enslaved people into the Republic as citizens served as the catalyst for the 14th Amendment, which gave African Americans citizenship.

What important discovery was made by Edmond Halley and Alexis Clairaut, using Newton's ideas of mathematics and gravity? A. They
Ymorist [56]

The correct answer is B. They were able to find the orbit of a comet and predict the year of its return.

Edmond Halley was a British astronomer, geophysicist, mathematician, meteorologist, and physicist. Alexis Clairaut was a French astronomer, geophysicist, mathematician.

They were friends with Isaac Newton that before, had built a new theory of universal gravitation.

With this new theory, Newton calculated the orbit of the Great Comet of 1680. Later, Halley used Newton’s theory to calculate the orbits of several comets - even some that were in ancient records -. The thing is: Halley noticed that some comets had similar orbits, which led him to suggest that some comets may be periodic and that they may be moving along very elongated ellipses. This way he forecasted the comets return in a period of 76 years.

Since then, the comet has carried Halley’s name.

Alice Paul helped pioneer the movement. She was the one sitting out of president Woodrow Wilson’s (?) Why did troops fire on the protesters at Tiananmen Square? A. The protesters were demanding scholarships for higher education. B
Morgarella [4.7K]

In 1989, a group of students led a protest in Tiananman Square, in Central China. After the Cultural Revolution has ended with the death Mao Zedong in 1979, there was economic and civil unrest. Because of this movement spearheaded by Mao, China faced poverty that they had never seen before. Shortly before his death Dong Xioaping was made the de facto leader of China in 1978. Reforms were set up by him and this led to a huge downturn. Deaths of prime political figures and a disembodied education system were to follow in only 11 years time. In 1989, a group of brave students took arms in the forms of words and signs to protest to demand scholarships for higher education, these "riots" were seen by the un-democratic and corrupt government of China as a threat, and military action was taken. It resulted in a huge causality rate, that of a massacre.
