The state of Florida ended up deciding the winner between the Democratic Party candidate Al Gore and the Republican Party candidate Geroge W. Bush. The elections results in Florida were so critical in the 2000 election in that Florida had 25 electoral votes and it would determine the winner of the presidency. Since the election of 2012, the state of Florida has 29 electoral votes.

George Bush won 246 votes and 255 to Democrat vice president Al Gore. New Mexico had 5 ballots, Oregon had 7 and Florida 25.  Al Gore managed to win Mexico and Oregon, but the election result depended on Florida. Florida was swing state and its result was not known for a month due to recounting of its presidential ballots along with Supreme court's decision in Bush V. Gore, Bush won the electoral votes in Florida with a margin of 537 votes.
