Inglis is against Paine´s proposal of separating "from the British Empire."  

His main point is warning about the horrid consequences and "inconveniences" independence may lead to, such as violence, losing properties, the Constitution becoming obsolete, and Congress being incapable to solve those issues for a while.

Explanation:

Furthermore, he considers Americans to be Britons, and therefore more suitable for a limited monarchy than a democracy.
