In a food chain, all the organism belong to a trophic level. The amount of energy passed on from one trophic level is just 10% of the energy at its previous trophic level.

By this concept, when zebra eats the grass, only 10% of energy of grass is transferred to zebra.

Thus, the energy obtained by zebra after eating grass = \frac{10}{100} * 30,000KJ

= 3,000 KJ

When cheetah eats zebra , 10% of energy of zebra is transferred to Cheetah.

Thus, the energy obtained by Cheetah after eating zebra = \frac{10}{100} * 3,000KJ

= 300 KJ
