It was the worst economic downturn in history as millions of people in United States lost their jobs and unemployment rate increased drastically. The people who retained their jobs took significant pay cuts. There were food shortages and farmers were affected greatly. As a result, immigrant workers deported, some went voluntarily while others were even tricked or coerced. Due to high unemployment rates and economic crisis, less people were inclined to come to United States, hence the number of people leaving were more than people entering the US.

This railroad was a big help to the west any there are several reasons why. Here is one.
1. The transcontinental railroad was linked to the west so it allowed much traveling to be done and the farmers from the west were able to travel up east to sell their crops.
