Imagine you wanted to convince an uninformed person to take a political position that is the same as yours. What issue would you

try to talk about? How would you include ethos, pathos, and logos in your persuasion?

I say talk about economic policy. Argue for a position you believe in (be it Socialism, Laissez-Faire Capitalism, or whatever). I would start by using a anecdote that described the issue using the negative consequences of embracing the other perspective, immediately tarnishing the person's first impression of the opposite ideology. Then, I would involve logos by saying things like "just think about it, and you'll realize it makes perfect sense" and explaining my position as though it were a formula. Ethos would come into the picture when I mention the opinions of professionals and scholars who I've hand=picked to agree with me on the topic. Pathos has already been used in the form of the beginning anecdote, a "sob story" so to speak.
Hope that I helped!

DerKrebs [107]
The question above is incomplete, the complete version is given below:
Read this excerpt from "Not a Dove, But No Longer a Hawk."

I wonder, when I look at the bombed out peasant hamlets, the orphans begging and stealing on the streets of Saigon and the women and children with napalm burns lying on the hospital cots, whether the United States or any nation has the right to inflict this suffering and degradation on another people for its own ends.

How do the allusions in this excerpt reinforce the meaning of the passage?

The allusions clarify the geographic locations visited by the author.

The allusions recall specific locations and horrors of the Vietnam conflict.

The allusions question the Vietnamese for allowing such a violent war.

The allusions criticize the political philosophies that encourage suffering.

ANSWER

The correct option is this: THE ALLUSION CRITICIZE THE POLITICAL PHILOSOPHIES THAT ENCOURAGE SUFFERING. Allusion is a figure of speech, which refers to an object or a circumstance from an external context. In the passage given above, the author is questioning the political morality behind war. War usually result in great suffering for all involved and the author is wondering, if is morally correct for countries to be settling their differences by mean of warfare.
