The Battle of the Somme started on July 1st 1916. It lasted until November 1916.

The most games against German forces were made on September 17th.

July 1st was a disaster for the British. When the soldiers advanced, they were killed by machine gun and rifle fire. It was the bloodiest day in the history of the British army.

On September 17th, the British could not compete with the Germans in the air. The Germans launched a massive attack, but their advance was defeated by French artillery and machine guns, which stopped them in their tracks.
