Which strategies can be used to solve this problem? A county fair plans to have 24 pigs in its pig exhibit area. Eight pigs can

fit in a large circular pen. The rest of the pigs will be put into square pens that can each fit 2 pigs. What is the fewest number of square pens that will be needed so each pig is in a pen? .
A.
Work backward. Find the number of square pens by dividing 24 by 2. Then what is left over goes into the circular pen.

B.
Use logical reasoning.
Subtract 2 pigs 7 times. The number of pigs left will be the number of pigs in the square pens.

C.
Translate into an equation.
(24 – 8) ÷ 2 = p

D.
Model the problem. Use 24 objects to represent the pigs. Move 8 objects into one group. Then put the remaining objects into groups of 2. Then count the groups of 2 to find the number of square pens.

Solve for x x^2-10x+25=35
ZanzabumX [31]

Answer:5 + /- sqrt35

Step-by-step explanation:

Rearranging, we get x^2 -10x -10=0

Applying the quadratic formula,

(10 +/- sqrt(10^2 -4*-10))/2

(10+/- 2sqrt35) /2 = 5 + /- sqrt35 as the two roots.
