In adventures of huckleberry finn how might jim's dialect affect the readers interuprtation
Gemiola [76]

Jim is one of the two main characters of the classic novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain. The novel takes place in the southern US in the antebellum years (before the Civil War). Jim is a runaway slave, and his speech reflects his origin.

Twain uses different dialects and accents throughout the book to show more about the character, and about the social relationships that took place in the south during that period. Jim's speech is characteristic of someone with a low level of education, living in that particular time period and era and being of black heritage. Therefore, it is used to convey several different traits of the character to the reader, without having to state them constantly. It is also a way to remind us as we read of the context in which the novel takes place.
