Introduction to Indigenous Cultures of Latin America

1. Two broad categories of indigenous peoples in Latin America are:

a) The descendants of pre-Columbian civilisations. They tend to live in mountain areas and have practiced organized agriculture for many centuries before the European conquest.

b) The hunter-gatherers or small-time farmers.  They tend to live in forest areas.   And they usually migrate from one area to another without establishing permanent abodes and settlements.

2.  The descendants of pre-Columbian civilizations who usually live in mountainous areas have practised organized agriculture before the coming of Europeans.

3. Two things that stand out from the reading are:

a) The indigenous peoples have continued to maintain their culture relative to globalization.

b) The indigenous peoples of Latin America are scattered all over the countries of South America.

4. One important issue facing indigenous peoples in Latin America is land ownership.

5. Land ownership remains an issue for indigenous peoples because they live on and by the land.  They do not want to be deprived of their land, which has remained their source of livelihood for centuries.

Explanation:

The indigenous peoples of Latin America are different groups with different languages, cultures, and ways of living, including dressing, music, and religious beliefs.  They are distinct from the Europeans who later settled in their areas.  They were originally from Asia and have lived in South America for centuries before the Europeans conquered their territories.  You can distinguish them from The Europeans because of  their dark eyes, straight black hair, and lightly tanned skins. These genetically connect them to Asia.  In heights, they tend to be shorter than Europeans.  Most of them still live in mountainous and forest areas, like the Amazons of Brazil.

In the face of globalization, the indigenous peoples of Latin America also want to preserve their traditional culture and languages.  They need to overcome poverty and aspire to political leadership in order to better their lot.

Which type of roadway did North Carolina construct nearly five hundred miles of between the 1830s and 1860s?
g100num [7]

The correct answer is; Plank.

Further Explanation:

North Carolina started building plank roads in the late 1840's. These roads were easier to maintain and easier to drive on. Before the plank roads were built, the roads had long muddy roads and large holes and ruts that drivers had to navigate through.

The crews could only lay an estimated 40 miles of plank roads per year and this did cause issues. North Carolina had the largest plank road with a total of 500 miles built. The rods failed after a few years because it took so long to build.

Citizens were then using the railroad system since it was faster than traveling by horse and buggy. The people also did not like having to stop at the toll booth that had been set up on the road. The money collected at the toll booth was used to pay for maintenance of the plank road.
