The epic <em>Beowulf </em>was an ancient mythical story about the courage of Beowulf and saved his countrymen and others from the terrorizing monster Grendel. In this epic, the hero Beowulf dominated and saved them from Grendel, his mother and a dragon which made him the epic hero.

Though the epic narrative deals with numerous themes, the most dominating themes are courage, pride in one's land and honor in defending it against any opposing force. Like all epics, this epic also has the same qualities of a hero going on a quest and achieving great success, even to the length of him being declared a hero.
