Of course, free verse, poetry that doesn't use rhyme or meter, can also use stanzas to create pauses and organize the poem on the page.

On the basis of a fixed number of lines and rhyming scheme, traditional English language poems have the following kinds of stanzas:

• Tercet

• Quatrain

• Quintain

• Sestet
