In 1951, her father Oliver Brown filed a lawsuit against the local school board, that refused to enroll Linda Brown into the Sumner Elementary School. This culminated in the famous lawsuit that was unanimously decided on May 14, 1954 in favor of Brown, effectively forbidding school segregation. Thurgood Marshall was her lawyer at the time.
