<span>Apartheid was condemned by most countries internationally, pressure which increased during the 1980's. This included sanctions and boycotts of South African goods and condemnation by the UN. Additionally, protests took place in many countries. However, the US and UK, led by Reagan and Thatcher, were reluctant to condemn apartheid entirely, and Thatcher referred to the ANC, party of Nelson Mandela, as a terrorist organisation.</span>
