Difference between convergent and divergent evolution

Biology
1 answer:
kogti [31]3 years ago
3 0
When two different species with the same ancestral origins have different traits, it is divergent evolution. Darwin's finches are an example of divergent evolution. There are about 15 different species of Darwin's finches derived from a single species, but they differ in beaks because they adapted to different diet.
When two different species with different ancestral origins have similar traits, it is convergent evolution. Let's take for example fish and dolphins. Dolphins are mammals and not fish, but they have fins just like fish. Although fish and dolphins have different ancestral origins, they develop similar structures because they live in similar environmental conditions.

Which of the following organisms exhibits cephalization?
bezimeni [28]
Cephalization describes the process by which organisms develop a distinct head. The head of a cephalized organism contains a concentrated group of nerves, or brain, that controls the rest of the organism, as well as specialized organs for consumption and perception, like mouths, eyes and ears. Cephalized organisms exhibit a distinct division between parts of the body; they have a front, back, top and bottom. These animals comprise the bulk of animals that are encountered on a daily basis.

HELP....
What can you infer about the relationship between fault line and plate boundaries ?
antiseptic1488 [7]

The following can infer about the relationship between fault line and plate boundaries:

The Earth's skin is separated into a dozen of tectonic plates. Plate boundaries are always faults, but not all faults are plate boundaries. The plate displacement relative to one another distorts the crust in the boundary area producing earthquake fault structures. The interior of the plates also includes significant faults and fault networks.

As the plates pass the mechanical energy is retained, in the similar way that energy is retained by a stretched spring. A accumulation of force or stress throughout the fault is correlated with the damage. Meanwhile, frictional force holds the fault together.
