In a population of a beetle species, you notice that there is a 3 : 1 ratio of shiny to dull wing covers. does this ratio prove

that the shiny allele is dominant? (assume that the two states are caused by two alleles of one gene.) if not, what does it prove? how would you elucidate the situation?

No, it the ratio does not prove that the shiny wing is dominant. The ratio only says that shiny wing is more common than the dull wings.
To know which allele is dominant, you need to do an experiment by crossing various beetle and observe the ratio of the offspring phenotype.

How do power plants hurt the environment?
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

A power plant can hurt the environment in different ways and the effects can either cause permanent damage or temporary damage.

Many power plants use fossil fuels as a source of energy. As a result, fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil etc become depleted.

Water is used abundantly by the power plants to cool down various products or for many other processes. When this contaminated water is released in the rivers it becomes harmful for the wildlife animals and plants. It leads to eutrophication.

Power plants also tend to release many harmful gases into the air and cause environmental pollution.

Which of the following is false regarding the protein pepsin?
Ilya [14]

Answer:

C. Pepsinogen is the active form of pepsin.

Explanation:

Pepsin is a gastric protease belonging to the aspartic proteinase family which breaks down polypeptide chains into smaller peptides by hydrolyzing peptide bonds. Pepsin is found in the gastric juice where it digests proteins from foods together with other digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid. Moreover, pepsinogen is a precursor of pepsin which is secreted by the gastric chief cells of the human stomach and then is converted into pepsin (its active form) by hydrochloric acid.
