Your answer here should be C. I used the process of elimination.

A. Can't be correct because the phrase says "wasn't commonly used", so it can't be heard often. B. Says "has negative connotations, but this isn't about connotations. And D. "Seems incorrect" doesn't make sense. Hope this helped. :)

Answer:

Another example of 1) English Patriotism and 2) Henry trying to be "one of the guys,." He's offering them the chance to be elevated to the status of gentleman because of their bravery.
