Americans began to see a link between farm problems and their own.

The Grange movement and the Populist Party had a strong influence on national politics. In 1896, the Republicans won the White House and the greatest number of seats in both the Senate and House of Representatives. But Democrats and Populists and additional smaller parties were not to be ignored. The People's Party (Populists) would eventually merge into the Democratic Party, and the Progressive movement got rolling in the early 20th century. Included on the Progressive agenda would be stronger support for the nation’s agricultural and working classes.
