Answer:

She decides to close the house because she believes that the house is doing harm to her children and believes that the parents cannot compete with the efficiency of the house.

Children will not react well to this decision.

Explanation:

This question is related to the short story "The Veldt" that tells about a family that moves to a technologically technological home that efficiently does all the tasks that someone might need, including the simplest ones like tying shoes and bathing children .

As the house is highly self-sufficient and computerized, the children's parents are not concerned with educating them or meeting their needs, since the house takes care of that. Children love the home, but they are growing up rude and with some symptoms of psychological problems which makes parents worry. The mother, Lydia, decides to close the house and move to a common house, because she is concerned about the children's situation. However, children love the house and will not react calmly, as shown at the end of the short story.

Letter B. This part of the presentation is proposing a solution to the problem. Stating that cities and states taxed sugary beverages at a higher rate serves as a solution or probably a suggestion to what a state/city can do so that people will be encouraged to make healthier choices by preferring less costly drinks.

Which character in this excerpt is in conflict with society, and why? A. Joe Summers is in conflict with society because he is j
lawyer [7]

Answer:

C. Mrs. Adams is in conflict with society because she says some villages have stopped holding lotteries.

Explanation:

The given excerpt from Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery" shows the scene where all of the villagers were together to cast lots about who was to be chosen the <em>"winner"</em> of that year's lottery. The practice of this barbaric stoning to death of the <em>"winner"</em> seems like an annual ritual to them though they hardly ever remember why or how it came up to be.

In the excerpt, the conflict between a person and society is seen when someone seems to criticize what is happening in the society or talks against it. And when Mrs. Adams remarked that some villagers had stopped holding the lotteries, she is in direct conflict against the practice/society. This shows that she may have also deemed it unnecessary, but given the patriarchal society she's living in, her voice or opinion hardly matters to anyone. This is also quite evident when Old Mister Warner immediately retorted "<em>Pack of young fools</em>." The conflict with society collides with the need to preserve the practice, thus leading to Mrs. Adams' comment as something bad or working against the very nature of the traditional lottery.
