X = price Sumatra, y = price Celebes

12*x + 4*y=15

4*x + 12*y = 21

Now, solve it. For instance (there are many ways):

Multiply the second equation by (-3):

12*x + 4*y=15

-12*x  -36*y = -63

Sum them up (x cancel out. That's why we multiply by -3)

-32y=-48,  y = 48/32=6/4=3/2

y = 3/2 and x = go to any equation. Say the second again:

4*x + 12*y = 21

4x + 12*3/2 =21 ----> 4x + 18=21, 4x = 3, x = 3/4.

So cost of Sumatra $ 3/2  per oz, or $ 1.50

Cost of Celebes Kalossi (what a name!) $ 3/4 per oz = $ 0.75 per oz

Let's check it with the first equation:

12*0.75+4*1.5 = 15!

Clear?

D.) It is not correct because the second number tells you how far to go up or down, not across.

Second number represents y-coordinates, so they are the points in vertical direction, in that case you can't move in x-axis which is horizontal.

Hope this helps!

how would you write " The sum of one-third of a number, one-half of a number, and twice the number is thirty-four" as an equation
Rudik [331]

Answer:  The required equation is \dfrac{1}{3}x+\dfrac{1}{2}x+2x=34.

Step-by-step explanation: We are given to write the following statement as an equation :

"The sum of one-third of a number, one-half of a number and twice the number is thirty-four".

Let the number be represented by x.

Then, one-third of the number is \dfrac{1}{3}x, one-half of the number is \dfrac{1}{2}x and twice the number is 2x.

Therefore, as an equation, the given statement is written as:

\dfrac{1}{3}x+\dfrac{1}{2}x+2x=34.

Thus, the required equation is \dfrac{1}{3}x+\dfrac{1}{2}x+2x=34.

Round the decimal to the nearest hundredth: 5.6192
Drupady [299]
Rounding 5.6192 -

First you look at the hundredth place: If the number is 5 and higher round it up, if its 4 and lower round down. In this case 1 is in the hundredth place which means you round down. So 5.6192 rounded is 5.6

Leno4ka [110]

Answer:

-2x^2-5x+16

Step-by-step explanation:

Remove parenthesis:

-10x^2+9+8x^2-5x+7

Combine like terms:

-10x^2+8x^2-5x+9+7

= -2x^2-5x+9+7

=-2x^2-5x+16
