In Regents of University of California v. Bakke (1978), the Supreme Court ruled that a university's use of racial "quotas" in its admissions process was unconstitutional, but a school's use of "affirmative action" to accept more minority applicants was constitutional in some circumstances.

List of all the reasons why the Missouri Compromise was contentious in the US.
Natasha_Volkova [10]

Answer:

Missouri’s bid to become the first state west of the Mississippi River, and to allow slavery within its borders, set off a bitter debate in a Congress that was already divided into pro- and anti-slavery factions. During the debate, Rep. James Tallmadge of New York proposed an amendment to the statehood bill that would have eventually ended slavery in Missouri and set the existing enslaved workers there free. Southerners who opposed the Missouri Compromise did so because it set a precedent for Congress to make laws concerning slavery, while Northerners disliked the law because it meant slavery was expanded into new territory. Sorry I can't list everything this was an essay that I don't have anymore I'm just going off the top of my head.

Why were most of the Civil War battle fought in the Confederate states?
sveta [45]

Answer:

Most battles in the War Between the States were fought in the South was partly the result of the decision to blockade the Confederate State to prevent the South from getting supplies from nations like Great Britain and because Ulysses Grant decided to campaign for incursions into Southern territories to disrupt their infrastructure and destroy their garrisons (like the port of Memphis on the Mississippi) .
