One cause was the sheer size of the Mongol empire, due to its size the generals and grandsons of Genghis Khan (the most known Mongol warlord of all time) could not hold it together. 
Another cause was that an empire of this size needed more and more administration which was not being done to the level it needed to be, and this eventually led to the decline as well.

Crusades were significant as it strengthened the power of the religious authority at that time, and were a way for a lot of colonial expedition after that.

It's negative results were the same of any religious crusade as it hit the cord of religion only and judge others from their religious point of view only, and also many massacres happened.

The positive results were building communication bridges with those countries and communities.
