Answer:

1. Oxygen is an effective final electron acceptor in cellular respiration because of its high electronegativity.

2. Organisms that use it as a final electron acceptor can produce more usable energy than organisms that do not use oxygen, but only if it is available.

3. With more available energy, aerobic organisms can grow larger and move faster.

Explanation:

1. Cellular respiration is an aerobic pathway because oxygen is an electron acceptor. This process produces 38 molecules of ATP per glucose. The atomic elements that are positioned at the right of the periodic table have high electronegativities because they tend to be electron acceptors.

2. The efficiency of energy production of aerobic respiration is much higher compared to the anaerobic respiration because this metabolic pathway (aerobic respiration) can produce 38 molecules of ATPs per glucose molecule, while anaerobic respiration produces only 2 ATPs by glucose.

3. A higher amount of available energy improves the metabolic profile of the organisms with aerobic respiration.

1. How many trials did it take for half of the Virtualium atoms to decay?
Elis [28]

Answer:

Carbon-14 has a half-life of 5,730 years. Taking one atom of 14C, this will either have decayed after 5,730 years, or it will not. But if this experiment is repeated again and again, it will be seen that the atom decays within the half life 50% of the time.

Why all vertebrae are bones but all bones are not vertebrae?
GREYUIT [131]
Well, to know the answer to this question, you must know the meaning of vertebrae. Vertebrae are just a connections of bones that make up your backbone. These include about 24 ligaments that make up your spine. So all vertebrae are bones since they are ligaments and other bones that make up, well, your backbone! However, not all bones are vertebrae, because your finger bones, ribs, skull, and other bones in your body aren't part of your backbone.

Hope this helps!

What is the mechanism of action for vancomycin
ss7ja [257]
Vancomycin. Mechanism of Action: Inhibits cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-Ala-D-Ala terminal of the growing peptide chain during cell wall synthesis, resulting in inhibition of the transpeptidase, which prevents further elongation and cross-linking of the peptidoglycan matrix (see glycopeptide pharm).
