Max Weber stressed that sociologists should employ Verstehen (understanding or insight) to gain the ability to see the world as others see it. According to Weber, social scientists could use concepts called ideal-types, which capture the most rational and most essential components of any social thing. Verstehen is example for ideal-type. It denotes the interpretive understanding of the subjective motivations individuals attach to their actions.
