Hitler physically invaded Austria, although he also had some support from within the country, from people who believed all Austrians should be Germans. The invasion was later made to look like a voluntary incorporation with the helped of a staged referendum.
So history doesn't repeat itself.

Despite his impressive achievements, however, Johnson’s legacy was marred by his failure to lead the nation out of the quagmire of the Vietnam War. He declined to run for a second term in office, and retired to his Texas ranch in January 1969.
