Louis XIV chose the sun as his symbol because at a time when most of the people in France it was common for leaders to choose a symbol. He chose this symbol because he though it was a noble symbol that showed his power and centrality in the universe in shining light and justice on all those around him. Also he believed the sun was the strongest star and therefore it fit him well.
