Supply and demand. There is a demand for wood for paper, house building, home projects etc. It is a necessary evil. Logging destroys plant and animal habitats but wood is a renewable resource, therefore, logging companies are not going to stop anytime soon.
There are several ways in which human economics and ecology are linked, but perhaps the most prominent way is that humans tear down forests for fuel and other reasons, which disrupts the environment of many organisms.
