The correct answer is - A.) It was hidden under 60 feet of ash for 1700 years.

The city of Pompeii was located on the side of the Vesuvius volcano in Italy. It was not a big or very important city at the time, but it became famous much latter in the future.

After an eruption from Vesuvius, the city and its inhabitants, were all buried under 60 feet of ash. That was a tragic moment in the history, but it is a ''gold mine'' for the archaeologists as everything remained perfectly well preserved, and that was of great help in reconstructing the life of the people in that period of time.

It was hidden under 60 feet of ash for 1700 years.

Further Explanation:

Nearly 2000 years ago, Pompeii was a bustling ancient crowded city that was located in what is now knows as southern Italy. But when a volcano erupted in Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, It was so large that it spewed toxic gas and smoke at around 20 miles in the air and within few hours, the entire city was vanished along with around 10000 residents under the blanket of ash. This city was rediscovered in the year 1748 but until then it was lost and forgotten but post 1748, because of the excavations, scientists were able to figure out exactly what happened on that day.

The excavation process of Pompeii city is going on even today. According to the scientists, as soon as the Volcano erupted in the noon, there was a thick cover of ash in the sky which turned everything black and people were not able to see the sun. The amount of ash was so much that it clocked the door openings of the homes and people were stuck there and unable to evacuate and within no time, Volcano destructed everything.
