How was the independence movement in canada different from those in latin america

History

There are two main differences between the independence movement in Canada and those in Latin America.

The first difference is the fact that Canadian independence was achieved in different stages. Nowadays, Canada Day is celebrated on July 1st, which commemorates the passage of the British North America Act (1867). However, even though the passage gave more autonomy to Canada, it did not represent a complete separation from Great Britain. In fact, the British Parliament retained the right to amend Canada's constitution until 1982.

The second difference is the fact that independence in Canada was achieved in a peaceful manner, mainly through negotiations, over many years. In comparison, independence in Latin America was mostly achieved through a series of wars in the late 18th and early 19th century.
