Thanksgiving is a national holiday of US that is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a harvest festival. It has been celebrated on and off since 1789. It became a federal holiday in 1863 during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. The first thanks giving was celebrated by the Pilgrims of Mayflower ship after their first harvest in the New World and lasted for three days and was attended by ninety native Americans and 53 pilgrims. The first thanksgiving proclamation regarding thanksgiving was issued by George Washington on October 3, 1789. It marked the first national celebration of a holiday which is common in american homes today.
