"C recieved land in payment for their service" would be the correct answer. The Samurai did not work for land, however the Knights did.

The answer I think is that they received land as payment because the daimyo's didn't have to pay taxes and had a private army of samurais that attacked other daimyos to gain extra land that's why there were many different more powerful families.
