In the year 1863 on the day of 1st January President Abraham Lincoln pronounced the Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation confirmed that all Afro Americans held as slaves within the rebellious states are, and after this shall be free and they can lead their life on their own. According to Thomas Nast, the American Civil War sealed the Union and freed the slaves.
