It was the same for European monarchies in that all desired to amazing power and control over the conquered territories to increase the possessions and the economy of the European crowns that realized each other.

For instance, the case of the Spanish crown. King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella del Castille, sponsored the expedition of Cristopher Columbus that arrived at the Americas on October 12, 1492. The Spaniards soon realized the existence of many raw materials and natural resources in the new lands and they wanted to exploit them to make huge profits.
