Antibody-mediated (humoral) immunity is regulated by B cells. Antibodies produced by the B cells will protect the host from invading viruses and bacteria. Protective function of this type of immunization is found in host blood.

Cell-mediated immunity is regulated by activation of macrophages, natural killer cells (NK), antigen-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte. This type of immunity destroys pathogen (virus, bacteria, fungi, parasite) infected cells in the host body.
