The language that Stowe uses as George describes his country in Chapter 11 is extremely confrontational. George gets into a long conversation with Mr. Wilson and the topic they are speaking on is his "country". This leads into the metaphor, "What country have I, but the grave?George tells his belief that the slave is without a country. His only true home is his final resting place after hie dies. andrezito [222]

The sentence "He is poor, yet he is happy" is a compound sentence, since it consists of two independent clauses joined by the conjunction "yet".

What is a compound sentence?

A compound sentence is formed when we put together two independent clauses. An independent clause is a group of words that has a subject and a predicate, and it conveys a full thought, standing alone as a sentence.

To join the two independent clauses, we must use a coordinating conjunction. The coordinating conjunctions are the following:

 • For
 • And
 • Nor
 • But
 • Or
 • Yet
 • So

As we can see, the sentence "He is poor, yet he is happy" is a compound sentence. Let's break it down to better analyze it:

 • Independent clause 1: He is poor.
 • Independent clause 2: He is happy.
 • Coordinating conjunction: yet.

With the information above in mind, we can choose option B as the correct answer for this question.
