The North of the United States because he thought that slavery should not exist. North believed that but the south already had slaves and thought he was wrong. The south wanted Slavery to continue.
Not only did Douglass go through the brutality of slavery itself but he escaped and was brave enough to talk abt and write his story for others to read and understand. He gave people a different perspective I guess
