In economics, there is a difference between the need and the want of a person. Need, here used to refer to something which is required to survive or the person would die if his needs are not being met. Therefore, the needs of a person involve things such as food, shelter and water etc. On the other hand, the wants of a person are something that he wants to have and may or may not obtain. The given is a scenario that includes three needs and three wants:

A boy is kidnapped by some kidnappers in return for a big amount from his parents. In this situation, the boy's needs include food, water and a place or shelter to survive. On the other hand, the wants of the kidnapper include the money that they will receive and to escape safely from this situation and to spend that money according to their will.

Instead, he sends a plainclothes man to do the job.
