Direct democracy is one in which the citizens of the nation are involved in all steps of a decision-making process.

Direct democracy does not function with an intermediary or a representative. Every adult citizen comes together and shares in the power to rule. Direct democracy gives all citizens a chance to participate in governing the nation. The government uses certain devices to ensure the practicability of the system of direct democracy. Direct democracy entails the usage of passing executive decisions and legislation without any intermediaries. Sortition might be employed in this case, which means a handful of citizens will be selected to serve as government officials in a random fashion from amongst the many participants. Citizens make decisions regarding finance, commerce, politics, Foreign affairs and the actions regarding appointment and dismissal of officials.

Further Explanation:

Any direct democracy works in two established political formats called participatory democracy and deliberative democracy. Direct democracies employ certain methods of popular action so that the government functions smoothly. While it is not logistically feasible to administer a nation on the basis of direct democracy, citizens have the right to a plebiscite, which means decisions shall be based on popular opinion, followed by a petition empowering certain officials to administer power on the behalf of citizens or the removal of these officials by popular vote. The most common popular action shall be a compulsory referendum, that empowers citizens to decide on the validity of a particular statute, which means any legislation that has been formulated is subject to the opinion of the people. Popular referendum and citizen-initiated referendum empower citizens of direct democracy to exercise their political powers towards other popular actions.
