As a first responder, why is it important to understand the different ways in which people respond both physically and physiolog

ically to crises? Why is it important for first responders to not have any preconceived notions about how a person "should" present? For example, all victims of sexual assault may have a very different presentation after the event. Some may be hysterical, some sad, some in shock, some may appear to be calm. Why is it important to understand that these are all acceptable responses to a crisis?

Because during a crisis there can be many physiological and psychological effects. For example during a hurricane or an earthquake or any other crisis for that matter. There are people injured and you have to know how these people are feeling and what they are going through. You have to assess any physical damage to their bodys and have to cope with them psychologically because there interpretation of the situation is different. Which is why people involved in a crisis tend to experience shock, depression, anger the whole nine yards
