In Machiavelli`s view a good leader is one who knows how to defend and bring honor to his state.

 Machiavelli was a failed politician.

 He had a radical idea that it was better for prince ( leader ) to be feared than to be loved.

In the Boston Massacre the British Army fired into crowds of civilians, which reflected bad on the Military and gave the Colonist another big reason to establish their own nation.
