I believe the Colonial Leaders used the Boston massacre killings as propaganda to show the mistreatment of civilians/military misconduct. In the Boston Massacre the British Army fired into crowds of civilians, which reflected bad on the Military and gave the Colonist another big reason to establish their own nation.
