Russia is the world's largest country by area with 17.1 million square kilometres. Russia is a unique country because it is located between two major continents, Europe and Asia.

Because of its vast territory, the Russian federation is better known in two large parts, European Russia and Asian Russia (Siberia). There are some significant differences in the two regions, both in terms of demographics and climate.

Western Russia or European Russia has warmer climatic conditions and is ideal for life. The strategic location bordering European countries, such as Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, and others makes this part of the region more developed.

The impact is population density in the European Russian region is denser than in the Asian Russian region. The population density is around 27.5 people per square kilometres. Approximately 77% of the total population of Russia occupies this western part even though the area is only about 25% of the total area of Russia.
