What did black codes achieve

History
1 answer:
Galina-37 [17]3 years ago
7 0
Assuming you mean the Black Codes established in the United States during the mid-1860s, these codes sought to restrict the freedom of African Americans after the end of the Civil War. Because slavery was no longer legal, former slave owners and others still wanted to hold power over the free African Americans. They sought this power by forcing them to receive low wages in a labor economy or go into debt. Those who held power wanted to ensure that African Americans were not as free as others, and that they still had to work and owe society their labor and money. This unfortunately perpetuated the unfair treatment that African Americans faced after the Civil War.

How did the wartime experiences of African Americans contribute to the drive for greater civil rights after the war?
Amiraneli [1.4K]
The help of African-American military personnel during World War II drove for greater civil rights after the war. A perfect example of this would be the Tuskegee Airmen. This group of African-American pilots performed thousands of successful missions during World War II. This showed that African-Americans contributed a significant amount to the war effort and were willing to risk their lives for their country. These accomplishments were used as proof that blacks deserve the same rights as whites in American society.
