Answer: a. Removing most of the grass in their yard and replacing it with a vegetable garden.
Fossil fuels are fuels which develop from the dead animals and plants remain buried inside deep layers of earth millions of years ago. These fuels are non-renewable source of energy. These fuels once used cannot be replenished again. The burning of fossil fuels like coal, petroleum and natural gas releases gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide which are highly poisonous and causes air pollution. To compensate such damage of the atmosphere, trees and plants should be grown as they absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.
Removal of grasses for planting vegetable producing plants is an ideal option. As, vegetable producing plants can absorb more amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide than grasses. This will be cheapest and efficient way for reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide. Hence, this will further help in reducing their fossil fuel use.
