Read the following passage from Anne Sexton’s poem “Young” and answer the question. and I, in my brand new body, which was not a

woman’s yet, told the stars my questions and thought God could really see the heat and the painted light, elbows, knees, dreams, goodnight. Why does the speaker emphasize the fact that her body is “brand new”? Her body is a symbol of the new house that she lives in. It shows that the speaker doesn’t like things that are old. It suggests awkwardness, that she isn’t quite comfortable in her body because it is “new.” It emphasizes that she is excited over having something “new.”
