Answer:

occurrence

Explanation:

So, first we need to identify the suffix for each of the words given.

Then, when we subtract that suffix, we identify all the two-syllable words that end with short vowel + consonant pattern.

And then, finally, we identify the word whose last consonant doubled upon adding the suffix.

Having this in mind, the only word that meets these conditions is occurrence.

When we subtract the suffix -ence, we are left with occurr. Since the verb is occur, we see that the last consonant r doubled when the suffix was added.

This is also the case with other suffixes, as in occurred, occurring etc.

Who or what do you think is more threatening and dangerous: the island and its dangers or the boys themselves? Why? LORD OF THE
Lostsunrise [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

Landing on the Island

For the boys of Lord of the Flies, the island represents both their temporary home as well as their prison. There is no escape, unless they can signal to a passing boat or plane using a fire. From what they can tell, it 'was roughly boat-shaped: humped near this end with behind them the jumbled descent to the shore. On either side rocks, cliffs, treetops and a steep slope: forward there, the length of the boat, a tamer descent, tree-clad, with hints of pink: and then the jungly flat of the island, dense green, but drawn at the end to a pink tail.' The primary parts of the island are the the mountain on one end of the island; Castle Rock, a pink stone formation on the other end; the beach where the boys washed up after the plane crash; the jungle in the middle of the island; and the lagoon, 'a long, deep pool in the beach with a high ledge of pink granite at the further end.' In this apparent paradise, the boys initially think of themselves as kings unfettered by the demands of grownups. While the island appears to be a place of freedom, it actually traps the boys, physically and mentally.

In which sentence is the entire infinitive phrase underlined? The crowd was excited to see a great play. To cheer good plays mad
EastWind [94]
You didn't underline anything, so we cannot know for sure what the correct answer is. However, I'll just write down the entire infinitive phrases in these sentences, and you can see the answer based on that:
1. to see a great play
2. to cheer good plays
3. to practice until you know all the plays

Long, unbroken pages of text show authority and draw the reader into the writing
Liula [17]
As a writer and reader I disagree with this. Perhaps if you are writing for a scientific journal or business report, long blocks of text can seem like you have a lot of info. Generally speaking, especially in fiction and non fiction i think unbroken pages of text will best case scenario bore a reader, worst case scenraio burden and overwhelm  them with a lot of info so the feel daunted about continuing.
