The theme developed in the story is about "Truth and Lies". •Story explores whether lying is sometimes justifiable. •Kevin tells

truth to Waldo that father helped with Latin homework and is punished for it –ironic, since particularly in strict Catholic school, lying would be considered a sin and truth something to be encouraged and rewarded instead of punished. •Kevin lies to father that Latin was fine and is rewarded by father feeling relieved because he “was a bit worried about it” and has not hurt father’s pride in academic ability nor made him feel guilty as might be if knew that Kevin had been caned for his wrong answers. • Kevin “laughed and slipped his hand into the warmth of his father’s overcoat pocket, deep to the elbow”. Story ends showing happiness and closeness of Kevin’s relationship with father intact, which would not be case if he had told truth; author inviting reader to decide whether lying sometimes justifiable, therefore.

Red

From Night by Elie Weisel
". I looked at my little sister, Tzipora, her blond hair neatly combed, her red coat over her arm: a little girl of seven. On her back a bag too heavy for her. She was clenching her teeth; she already knew it was useless to complain. Here and there, the police were lashing out with their clubs: “Faster!” I had no strength left. The journey had just begun and I already felt so weak . . ."

What does the emphasis on the word pretty and Dexter’s reaction to the news of Judy’s situation tell readers about his attachmen
uranmaximum [27]

Dexter emphasizes the use of the word pretty during the final dialogue of Scott Fitzgerald's Winter Dream. This is because it is aggressive the insinuation of his interlocutor that the beauty of Judy is not such, since that beauty was the engine that drove his dreams of youth. The news of Judy's situation impacts him because he realizes that he can not go back in time and that in his current world there is nothing that could interest him or cause him the emotion he felt for Judy at the time.
