The Decembrist revolt was a uprising that began in Imperial Russia on December 26, 1825. In this revolt, Russian artillery leaders led around 3,000 fighters in a protest against Tsar Nicholas I's premise of the kingship after Constantine, his elder brother separated himself from the chain of succession. Since these events took place in the month of December the revolutionaries were called the Decembrists.
