The differences between the countries or continents when it comes to urban population depends mostly on the level of development of the country.

Explanation:

When it comes to the percentage of urban and rural population there are notable differences across the world. These differences mainly arise from the level of development of a country or a region as a whole. In general, the more developed a country is the higher the percentage of urban population, and the less developed a country is the lower the percentage of urban population.

On the map we can see that there is a big correlation with the percentage of urban population and how rich or poor a country is. We can take North America, Asia, and Africa as examples.

North America has high percentage of urban population, and this is due to the high level of development of the region. The economy is much more branched out, the service sector dominates, and the standard of living is high.

Asia, on some average, has a medium percentage of urban population, though there are variations between very high and low. The reason for this is that the majority of countries in Asia are developing countries, so the agriculture still plays a big role in their economies.

Africa, on the other hand, has very low percentage of urban population. This is due to the majority of the counties being in the less developed category. The economies are in terrible conditions, almost exclusively based on agriculture, and the standard of living is very low.
