The rapid growth of the urban class and trading capital in Japan at that time urgently demanded foreign markets. However, Japan's trade with China and the southern countries, passing through the port of Ningbo, was prohibited by the Chinese government due to the arrogant robbery of Japanese merchants. In addition, despite repeated warnings, Japanese merchants continued to atrocities and looting in the ports of Busan, Nyaipho, and Rempo (now the port of Ursan), through which trade with Japan was carried out, and the then ruling dynasty was forced to almost completely cease trade with Japan. As a result of all this, Japan's trade and economy was hit hard. In such conditions, the demand of the growing Japanese merchants to seize overseas markets was especially strengthened. Responding to these desires of the Japanese merchants, Hideyoshi intended to solve this problem by means of armed aggression, bypassing the channels of diplomatic negotiations.
